How to edit Configuration.php when moving the sites to server

I've been looking all over cyberspace for understandbel answers to my problems. But no luck so far. Maybe it's because I'm not that experienced i Joomla yet.
I have a lot of trouble moving the sites for server to server. I keep messing up the configuration.php.
Can anybody step by step lead me throug the process of moving a site from one server to another. I simply don't get it from the reading I have done so far.
